Creating rules with match criteria and match keys

Match criteria combine the relevant criteria with a match key. This allows you to analyze events of several customers.

Match criteria parameters lists the parameters associated with match criteria. These are additional criteria that can be applied to the historical set of data to the count or sum.

Match criteria parameters
Parameter Description
Rule Memory Allows to check if a rule has already been executed for this event (higher priority)after it has matched. The rule list box allows to select the memory rule.
Inherit Hierarchy Criteria If checked, the campaign, division, and rule criteria apply to the historical event to count or to sum.
Value to sum If the rule checks the sum of a value of a specific field of the historical event. This parameter contains the field name (e.g. the amount of the transactions in the historical data set).
Sum Threshold This is the arithmetic comparison of the sum result.
Frequency Threshold

This is the arithmetic comparison with the number of historical events that matched the criteria.

Possible values:

  • None: Apply Frequency Threshold for all historical events.
  • Different: Apply Frequency Threshold for event with distinct values of the field selected in the list box.
  • Same: Apply Frequency Threshold for event with same value of the field selected in the list box.
Period

The period during which the historical criteria applies.

Possible values:

  • Days
  • Hour
  • Mins

The historical set of data are not filtered by customer and campaign history criteria, rather by the match keys (e.g. historical data using the device for the defined period).

To create match criteria

  1. In the Create Rule and Action WizardClosed This wizard takes you through the rule creation process - here you create rules, and define critera, actions, and response/status. proceed to the Create Match Criteria step. In the Summary section of this step all history criteria defined in the previous steps are displayed.

  2. Enter a name and a description for the Match Criteria you are creating.

  3. Ensure that Rule Memory is not selected to select any available rules as match criteria.

  4. Click Add to display the criteria list menus and add the required criteria to define your rule. Remove any criteria or clear criteria values if required by clicking the corresponding buttons.

If you want the rule to use a hot list, one or more criteria need to contain IN or EXISTS. You can select the hot list for the respective criterion from the list of all current hierarchy hot lists (see Using hot lists in rules).

To add more criteria click Add; this will display further sets of list menus. Click Remove to remove a single criteria list menu line or click Clear to remove all added criteria list menus.

  5. Select and add the required match criteria such as the analysis level from the Value to Sum list menu, volume from the Sum Threshold list menu, and velocity from the Frequency Threshold list menu. Remove any criteria or clear criteria values if required by clicking the corresponding buttons.

  6. If the rule is to be a difference or same rule, select the corresponding option button and the required criteria from the corresponding list menu.

  7. Define the period over which the rule is to analyze pending alerts by entering the relevant values in the Days, Hours, and/or Mins input fields.

  8. When all criteria are defined, click Save & Next to complete this procedure.

You can also add match criteria to previously created rules by clicking Match Criteria in the relevant rule.

For the defined match criteria to be operative a corresponding match key must be defined—this is the next step in the Create Rule and Action Wizard.

If you have skipped creating and/or adding match criteria, the Match Key step of the Create Rule and Action Wizard will not be available.

To create a match key

  1. In the Create Rule and Action Wizard proceed to the Create Match Key step.

  2. From the Decision Match Key list menu, select the relevant criteria to create the key for the Match Criteria you have just created.

  3. Click Save Match Key.

The key you just added will be displayed in the field next to the Save Match Key button. Add further keys if required.

  4. Click Save & Next to complete creating the match key.

If by mistake you add the same match key twice for the same rule, this rule and the corresponding campaign will not compile and cannot be activated.

In that case, finish the wizard and then edit the rule to delete one instance of the duplicated match key: access the affected rule in the hierarchy and click Delete Match Key for that rule.

You can also add match keys to previously created rules by selecting the criteria from the Match Criteria list of the Match Criteria sheet in the relevant rule, and then by clicking on the Add Match Key button.
