Can a secondary signer be optional?

0 votes
Hi, I followed this guide to format my PDF to accept signatures for my client1 and client2. However, client2 is an optional signer. She does not have to exist. When I pass in only client1, I get a validation error: Errors: [Could not find extract info role: Joint1]","message":"Unable to extract PDF fields from this document.","code":400,"name":"Validation Error"} How can I configure this so that a signature field is ignored if there is no 2nd signer? Thanks, Danny

HI Danny, In your case, since you may or may not have a second signer, you will have to use Position Extraction in order to manually select the form fields in your PDF you want to extract. You will also have to drop the esignlive naming convention of your form fields in your PDF and use custom names. You can follow the guide below: https://developer.esignlive.com/guides/feature-guides/position-extraction/ In the guide, the form field name used for extraction is "sig1". Hope this helps.

Thanks That is one solution, but I rather have the convenience of letting SIlanis detect the signatures on the form as there are many forms to sign during the signing ceremony. I've read in this thread, https://community.onespan.com/forum/optional-signatures of someone with a similar problem. Is optional signer also on the roadmap?

No, I don't believe so. You can submit a request in the Enhancement Ideas forums. Our product managers regularly monitor this forum for ideas coming from customers and will evaluate accordingly if it will or not be implemented in future releases. https://developer.esignlive.com/forums/forum/general/enhancement-ideas/

I actually do believe that optional signatures are on the road map, but I don't know if they have a planned version, yet. Haris or I will look into that, tomorrow. :)
