state of transaction once retention period expires

From the best of my knowledge, transactions marked as being purging won't be accessible by API or UI any more. However, the auto-purge process should be performed at the midnight, so it's possible that a transaction remains in original state even after the retention date expires, and before being marked as purging.

And yes, the current data management implementation only auto purges the transactions, not auto archiving.
