I was able to find the problem by trial and error... It turns out that the DUMMY roles I've defined to fill in temporarily to match the corresponding FIelds on the PDF should NOT ONLY have a unique email but also unique first name, last name ..etc I've incorrectly assumed that as long as the email is unique where each potential signers will have a unique url to his/her email and that since they were temporary roles that it would be ok but I assumed incorrectly. So for the sake of the workaround using DUMMY roles, I've made sure they had unique info under the roles .

Are you making this request to an existing package that already has signers defined in it because I quickly scanned over your roles and don't see duplicates, but there are so many, I may have missed something. :) The error definitely doesn't seem helpful when you have that many roles, I can agree with that. However, that is definitely the most roles I've ever seen defined in a transaction, as well, so I don't think there is normally as much confusion.

Its a new package I'm creating and uploading. I have to create so many roles because of the lack of optional signatures...like i mentioned in the previous OPEN ticket, my challenge is that we have a set of PDF templates with signatures for 2 to 6 different persons. So we have those fields already defined in the PDF. So when I prepare the JSON, I have to create those dummy roles ( basically all possible roles) , upload, then once it is uploaded, delete the invalid DUMMY roles- If you remember this was the workaround you proposed in my case. I've followed up in the other ticket regarding this feature which you mentioned was scheduled in 2017. In the meantime, how can I proceed with the current work around and debug what this error is pointing to? Thanks

Hey Gotcha, Great to hear you figured it out. That's interesting that you had issues using the same name, even with different email addresses. I have created transactions with my own name for 2-3 signers with only different email addresses an had no issues. Did you happen to test any further in this and see if there was a limit before it stopped working. I'll have to do some testing on this. Thank you for posting your findings!

Hey Gotcha, We actually tested the payload you put in the first comment and it worked just fine for us. So, the solution you posted about changing the names of the signers doesn't seem to be the solution to what was wrong. So, I don't know what else might have changed when you changed what you did, but it doesn't seem to be the first name, last name, and company.

Hi Mike, I've done 2 test: 1. sending all DUMMY data with same FNAME, LNAME and COMPANY - This gave me an error {"messageKey":"error.validation.userAddition.existingUserForRole","entity":null,"technical":null,"packageId":null,"code":400,"message":"A User is already defined for this role.","name":"Validation Error"} 2. Using the same test but changing the DUMMY data adding an incremental value to make the FNAME, LNAME and COMPANY unique,- This passed. I just redid the test and i observed the same behaviour when i POSTed to the REST API - Below is the 2 Payloads and a DIFF scren shot showing the differences in the Payload. I'm not sure why you are not getting the same behaviour as mine... but i can assure you that in my code, the only thing I changed was when populating the JSON payload under roles.name and roles.signers.company, roles.signers.firstName, roles.signers.lastName JSON: BAD

Which instance of eSignLive are you using? sandbox.esignlive.com? sandbox.e-signlive.com? Other?

Okay. We tried against the newer sandbox (esignlive.com). I will try against the old and let you know, but that's likely the difference we're seeing.

Confirmed that this is happening in 10.13.x (e-signlive.com) and not in 11.x (esignlive.com). If this is causing giant issues, you could always contact your CSR or support and see about getting switched onto the newer instance. Or once the migration from 10.13.x to 11.x happens, it'll go away.

Glad you were able to reproduce it ! As far as I am concerned, when i first started on this POC, there was only this environment.. or may be i wasn't aware of the other environment... I'm using it from Canada. Like i mentioned, I've work around this issue by appending a suffix counter to make sure the information in the names are always unique. I do recall, when I tried to login recently using my user/pass from the link on the main site that my user/pass was not recognized... The finally found out that the URL I was accessing has changed from e-signlive.com to esignlive.com ! However, I'm curious about the difference between the environment? Should I point my testing to the esignlive.com and recreate an account for the sandbox ? Will both domain name be merged to use the same backend system? Thanks

When you go into production are you using the Canadian instance (.ca)? If so, it has already been migrated to 11.x, so it would function in the way that I was first testing and would not be the same as your sandbox.e-signlive.com until the US migration is completed. When they migrate the e-signlive.com applications, they will likely remain in place for quite some time, if not forever, to not break existing integrations, so, no, they won't merge into a single back end (at least not right away).
