Authenticators

An authenticator is a device to provide one-time password (OTP) and electronic signature functionality to a user.

It is used to enable secure access for a specific person within an organization. For more information about the different authenticator types, see Authenticators.

Each authenticator need to be registered in OneSpan Authentication Server to support authentication requests that use an OTP generated by the authenticator.

Some authenticator settings are pre-programmed into the devices during manufacture, some are assigned through policies and others can be assigned specifically to a n authenticator using authenticator records. Both, policies and authenticator records, are configurable in the Administration Web Interface.

The Administration Web Interface supports authenticator management including:

  • Importing authenticator records
  • Assigning authenticator records to user accounts
  • Searching authenticator records
  • Viewing run-time information
  • Various authenticator operations

The user can perform many authenticator functions that are unavailable during a usual logon for different reasons via the User Self-Management Website and the Virtual Mobile Authenticator OTP Request Website. For more information, refer to the OneSpan User Websites Administrator Guide.
