Using the demo Digipass GO 3 or Digipass GO 6

This topic explains how to activate and use the demonstration Digipass GO 3 or Digipass GO 6, respectively.

The Digipass GO 3 and Digipass GO 6 authenticators (demo and production) only produce a time-based one-time password (OTP) values, referred to as response. This is referred to as response-only authentication. The Digipass GO 3 and Digipass GO 6 authenticators are used with a PIN that is entered before the response is generated.

Activating the demo Digipass GO 3/Digipass GO 6

To turn on the authenticator, press the button on it.

Using the auto-off function

To preserve the maximum battery life, the demo Digipass GO 3/Digipass GO 6 automatically turns off after a time of inactivity.

Obtaining a one-time password

Whenever the demo Digipass GO 3/Digipass GO 6 is activated, it calculates and displays a 6-digit number on its LCD screen.

This response is generated based on the secret code stored within the authenticator and the current time.

At logon, the users' server PIN and the OTP from the authenticator should be entered in the appropriate password field on the logon screen or web page. The server PIN is initially 1234.

For example, if the OTP generated by the authenticator is 235761, you need to type 1234235761 at the login screen.

Changing the server PIN

The default server PIN of the demo Digipass GO 3/Digipass GO 6 authenticators (1234) can be changed during the authentication process.

To change the demo Digipass GO 3/Digipass GO 6 server PIN

  1. Go to the login page or screen.
  2. In the user ID field, enter the user ID for the user account you are using for testing.
  3. In the password field, enter the current server PIN (by default 1234) for the demo authenticator.
  4. Turn on the demo authenticator and enter the OTP generated in the response field directly after the server PIN.
  5. Enter the new server PIN for the authenticator twice after the response in the Response field.
  6. Submit your login to issue the new server PIN to OneSpan Authentication Server.

To change the server PIN for a demo authenticator from 1234 to 5678, where the OTP generated was 111111, enter the following value in the password field and log on:

123411111156785678

Whenever you log on using the demo or production authenticator, you may use this method to change your server PIN, except for RADIUS authentications where any form of CHAP is used (e.g., CHAP, MSCHAP, MSCHAP2). In this case the information is one-way hashed and cannot be retrieved from the packet.

For more information about alternative web-based methods to change the server PIN if CHAP protocols are used, refer to the OneSpan User Websites Administrator Guide.
